Print Solutions feature : CHILI Publisher v4

Holy tamole, Chili Publisher 4.0 is to be released with a whole host of new features. It’s really hot!

If you already have a taste for Chili then you will be really pleased to hear that the latest version is even better than before. If you haven’t yet tried Chili Publisher, then check out the features and benefits of this online editing solution – we think you will be impressed.

‘When developing version 4.0, we didn’t just aim to keep pace with where the market is today. We wanted to break the mould on what defines an online editing solution,’ said Bram Verniest, chief marketing officer of Chili Publish.

‘The result of that inventive thinking is a new version of Chili Publisher that includes a complete transformation of the editor and new functionality to enable customers to grow by expanding into new markets, new devices, and new opportunities.’ This is no quick update either, but an overhaul of the editor and framework, which will make this product even more compelling for users. Version 4.0 allows users to be much more open; they are no longer limited by a specific platform as the solution supports all types of environments, including Flash and HTML 5.

So, what is it? This is a flexible, online document editing solution that integrates seamlessly within a wide range of workflows and production platforms. According to the company, it is ‘built on four core principles: flexibility for ease of customisation; open architecture with API toolkits; consistency across platforms, browsers, and different systems; and a browser based interface for the easiest possible access’.

The solution can be used in a number of ways and incorporated into workflows, whether used for web to print, magazine publishing, packaging, brand management, yearbook applications, or others. The software embeds into the application and is fully customisable to each end user’s needs.

Have a taste of Chili.
Chili Publisher 4.0 also includes lots of new features. These include:

Online communications: using version 4.0, a user can edit a document in Chili Publisher and export it to HTML 5 where it can then be used as the basis for online communications such as e-mail campaigns. Users can create one document that will then work across multiple channels.

Mobile Editing: extends editing to mobile devices.

3D visualisation: users can now present personalised documents on 3D images. For example, a personalised label can be visualised on a bottle, which can then be placed on a virtual table in a restaurant, giving users a real world view on how their design would appear.

Version 4.0 also includes tools that better support the online editing process. It is compatible with Adobe Creative Cloud, and the latest update means that it will be compatible with future releases of Adobe software. In addition, the release includes preflight tools that enable users to identify and fix potential problems before they reach production.

Translatable plug-in: the plug-in could already be customised. With Version 4.0, the interface can also be translated.

Fix it for me: when converting files from Adobe InDesign to Chili Publisher, a preflight check is performed to verify the document and to list items that need attention.

Live preflight: in addition to the ‘Fix it for me’ feature, documents can be live preflighted when designing in Adobe InDesign, so you will know instantly if what you are designing can be converted to a Chili Publisher document.

Round trip of private data: private data stored in an Adobe InDesign or Chili Publisher document is kept when converting between both formats. The installation of this plug-in is optional.

Structured text import: version 4 lets users import text files. Automatic styling of the text can be achieved via tags added to the text file.

HTML editor: Chili Publisher now comes in two flavours: Flash and HTML.

Collada: the 3D visualisation of documents supports the import of Collada files, thus enabling a whole new world to present your document in a 3D environment. Collada is an interchange file format for interactive 3D applications. Presenting a poster on a bus stop or showing a label on a plastic bottle is now possible.

HTML 5 Output: with version 4.0, a document can be exported to an HTML 5 compliant document. End users can edit a document in Chili Publisher, export it, and use this for example as a basis for an HTML mailing campaign.

Feelin’ Chili

Bram continued, ‘What makes this 4.0 version so compelling are the changes we have made to the architecture of our product. We overhauled the editor so it is now completely independent of whatever environment the user is working in – HTML 5, Flash, or any future platform. In addition, we have added functionality that enables customers to expand their business: features like 3D personalisation, online publishing and support for mobile devices. This release marks a significant milestone for Chili Publish, but most importantly, it gives our customers an online editing solution that can help their business flourish today and in the future.’
