EFI™ (Nasdaq: EFI) announces a major update to Metrix®, its intelligent print planning and impositioning software offering. The new Metrix, version 2015, brings greater efficiencies to job planning and layout creation with its unprecedented level of automation, including seamless data exchanges with MIS, prepress and finishing technologies.
“This major update to Metrix software advances critical production planning and workflow steps in ways that benefit print businesses of all types and sizes,” said Charlotte Tueckmantel, general manager, web-to-print and value-added products, EFI Productivity Software. “We have introduced an even higher level of automation while giving operators more flexibility to efficiently move work through the production process.”
New capabilities available in the latest release of Metrix include:
- A component picker that gives operators the ability to easily group jobs by like characteristics for faster optimised layouts. Selection criteria include colour, finished size, product type and production date.
- Faster auto plan impositioning governed by a “same size” algorithm to dramatically reduces the time to generate layouts.
- An auto plan selector for rapid previewing of each automatically generated imposition result. With this feature, part of Metrix’s Auto Plan module, operators are assured the software’s preferred choice is the best choice given the plan parameters.
- Simplified exporting that allows operators to quickly select multiple output profiles and easily switch between export file types for output to a complete range of leading prepress and platesetting systems.
- Cutting machine support with tools to account for different types of cutting equipment in imposition layouts. When combined with a new basis weights database resource, Metrix is able to determine the optimum cutting plan and cutting costs for each job and incorporates Job Definition Format (JDF) instructions into job data for automated cutting machine setup.
In addition to these enhancements, EFI has also upgraded Metrix software to support Apple’s Mac OS 10.10 (Yosemite) operating system, along with continued support for the latest Microsoft Windows PC platform. Users can view details about EFI Metrix’s new features at http://bit.ly/1JTGw8Q.
The newest version of EFI Metrix software is available as a free upgrade for existing EFI Metrix users that have a maintenance service agreement. Print businesses can also purchase the software by contacting EFI at 800-875-7117.
