All callas software products are now PDF 2.0 ready!

callas software, a leading provider of automated PDF quality assurance and archiving solutions, has announced that its PDF solutions now fully support the PDF 2.0 standard.

From now on, users of its products pdfToolbox, pdfaPilot, pdfChip and pdfGoHTML will benefit from the new possibilities that PDF 2.0 opens up.

PDF 2.0, published as an ISO standard in mid-2017, is making increasing inroads into the business world. Dietrich von Seggern, Managing Director at callas software GmbH, said: “We see our customers processing an increasing number of PDF 2.0 files. Right now, most of them still only use the 2.0 header, but now our customers will be able to use the new features contained within the ISO standard when using our products, allowing them to optimize their processes accordingly.”

With pdfToolbox for prepress and publishing, users can now perform checkups and fixes for converting to or from PDF 2.0. Additional new features include page-based output intents, black point compensation and other new options allowing them to add or remove specific objects. Naturally, the software can still also process older versions of the PDF standard as well as Office and other formats.

Meanwhile, with pdfaPilot the focus is on checking for and removing PDF 2.0-specific features. The software reliably converts files to PDF/A or PDF/UA – standards that are currently still based on older versions of PDF. These standards are expected to support PDF 2.0 by late 2019 or some time in 2020, after which pdfaPilot will also support PDF/A-compliant conversion for these extra features.

When creating PDFs with pdfChip, which converts HTML files into high-quality PDF documents, extensions within HTML templates let users generate PDF 2.0 features as part of the final output file.

pdfGoHTML, for translating tagged PDF files to HTML, is also PDF 2.0 ready. This free Adobe Acrobat plugin supports PDF 2.0’s new tagging options.

“For us, all PDF-based ISO standards are a key concern, as they represent a critical underlying component when developing business-wide and cross-business processes”, said von Seggern. “That is why we have been gradually preparing our product portfolio for PDF 2.0, and why our products will continue to fully support all new developments in the standard.”
